The photos above and at right, supplied by John Runnels, show some of the beam work that was accomplished during the coldest months of the project. By late winter, the intricate detail work of the project took shape as the bridge project moved out across the water. This photo, submitted by Margaret Rahn, offers a view of the steel beam work as it follows the footings out across the Missouri River. PHOTO: JOHN RUNNELS PHOTO: MARGARET RAHN P&D FILE PHOTO CONTACT! As winter wound down, it was clear that the link-up between the South Dakota and Nebraska sides was imminent, as the photos above-left and below-left photo suggest. P&D FILE PHOTO PHOTO: JOHN RUNNELS HISTORY From Page 3B with the NDOR. Then there are some metal plates inside that get welded to hold them together. As members of the public inspect the bridge on foot or view it while driving by slowly in their vehicles, their anticipation to drive across the rare new Missouri River bridge is palpable. After years of hard work, those who labored in various ways to make the Discovery Bridge a reality are perhaps the most excited of all. We look forward to seeing everyone on (Oct. 11) and pray that the weather holds out, said Tom Noecker of the BYBC. Strengthening our community connection to our neighbors. Welcome to Yankton!!
