    Yankton Celebrates 1 BY RANDY DOCKENDORF randy.dockendorf@yankton.net Yankton may be 150 years old, but the city and its guests will be rocking and swaying like youngsters during the Big Birthday Bash set for June 2-5, 2011. Concerts will fill Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, while a historical pageant dedicated to Yankton s past will be performed at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Riverside Park. The Thursday night concert is slated for the Summit Activities Center theater. The Friday and Saturday night outdoor concerts are set for Memorial Park. All of the events are free and open to the public. We have a good spectrum, from classic rock to blues, said 4 VISITORS GUIDE YANKTON, SOUTH DAKOTA Yankton City Manager Doug Russell, who is working with the concerts. The Thursday night line-up had yet to be determined as of this printing. However, Russell was looking at different styles of music in a theater setting. We are looking at what can be done, he said. The scene shifts Friday to Memorial Park, where headliner Big Head Todd and the Monsters will take to the stage at 9 p.m. Big Head Todd and the Monsters are popular in the Midwest. They have received a lot of national exposure, Russell said. The band is known for a strong following and a lot of events in the region. Right now, Big Head is playing on the blues tours. The Friday concert opens around 6 p.m. with Boring Daylights with Sarah Benck, followed at 7:30 p.m. by the Nadas out of Des Moines, Iowa. The music resumes Saturday, with the Grammy-nominated Christian band RED headlining at 9 p.m. The band is preceded by Janitor Bob and the Armchair Cowboys at 6 p.m. and Kory and the Fireflies at 7:30 p.m. RED is a Christian band, but they do
