14 Press & Dakotan/2011 Lewis & Clark Lake Guide Bring The Family, Enjoy The Ride Cowboy Up! Dust off your cowboy hat because it is summer and it s time to head to the rodeo. The Yankton Rodeo Association is making a change this year for their 24th annual rodeo during Riverboat Days. Rather than running a seven-event rodeo on two days, this year you can take in an Extreme Bullriding Tour event at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. Working with Shad Smith and his Double S Company, the Yankton group is hoping to see 35-40 cowboys compete in Yankton which would make this event one of the largest in the region. Extreme Bullriding Tour has produced 28 Gold Buckles winners, including six Bull of the Year and four Bull of the Final awards, as well as numerous others that have participated in the prestigious Professional Bull Riders (PBR) world finals. The bullriding event will also feature the usual Prince and Princess Contest and candy toss, and Smith said the tour would also provide its own entertainment between rides. You won t want to miss the excitement. You won t want to miss the adventure. And you won t want to miss this family-fun event. The rodeo grounds are located behind the Human Services Center from Hwy 81, take 50 west and look to your right for the big barns; or take West City Limits Road, head north and watch for the signs. For more information on the rodeo, call Doug and Val Hevle at (605) 665-9231.
