CAREER & EDUCATION 2011 ~ 8 ~ Yankton Daily Press & Dakotan 75 Years of Academic Excellence At Mount Marty College For almost 75 years, Mount Marty College has been the hallmark of academic excellence in the upper Midwest. Mount Marty serves as a premier regional college offering 27 majors and 10 pre-professional programs of study. Master s Degrees are available in Nurse Anesthesia, Business Administration, and Nursing. The Master s Degree in Nursing program, along with a Certificate in Practical Nursing (LPN) program were just added in January 2011. Mount Marty s main campus is located on the bluffs of the Missouri River in Yankton, S.D., with a smaller campus located next to Lake Area Tech in Watertown. In 2010 the Nurse Anesthesia program in Sioux Falls relocated to new facilities at 5001 West 41st Street. Students at Mount Marty have the ability to work directly with instructors and professors, giving them access to the firsthand knowledge and support of professional faculty. Professors are genuinely interested in each student s success and provide daily challenges to excel. Those experiences, combined with excellent opportunities for growth have allowed students to excel academically. This past year, 31 percent of the class of 2010 graduated with honors, 34 athletes were recognized as Academic All- Conference Athletes, and 11 teams were recognized as NAIA Scholar Teams. But it s not all about academics. While at Mount Marty, students also develop a sense of community and belonging. They know each other by name, share music and favorite books, and hold late-night discussions on contemporary topics. So not only do students grow academically, they also grow personally as they develop connections to last a lifetime. According to Kalib Heeren from Akron, Iowa, I found community, family, and everlasting friendships when I walked through the doors of Mount Marty College. As a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Great Plains Athletic Conference, Mount Marty College hosts athletic events in Yankton that include men s and women s basketball, cross-country, soccer, track and field, and golf. In addition, women s volleyball, women s softball, and men s baseball represent the college well. A collegiate club archery program for men and women was added in the fall of 2010. Mount Marty is able to make education affordable through grants, scholarships, work study and other financial assistance opportunities. Each year approximately 99% of Mount Marty students receive finan- cial assistance. Mount Marty College is on the leading edge of instruction and learning, evident in the achievement of its students, excellent job placement and graduate school accept- ance rates.
